Srivilliputtur is a village which is connected by Virudhunagar – Tenkasi Railway line. The milestone of Srivilliputtur is Kallazhagar Temple which is built for Lord Vatapatrasayee, Lord of Srivilliputtur. Srivilliputtur is famous for Palkova. The famous personalities of Srivilliputtur are Dr. K. M. Irulappan, anthropoligis and V. Samantha Iyer, master in ancient Tamil literature.

    The name for city was originated from the founder Villi and Puttan, so called Srivilliputtur. Srivilliputtur is a village which is located near to the Virudhunagar and Tenkasi. It is connected by railways to Madurai, Sattur, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi. The important feature of Srivilliputtur is Kallazhagar Temple, the Lord of Srivilliputtur. The important thing about this temple is that it is 192 feet high. The temple tower is used as a part of its insignia by Government of Tamil Nadu. There is a santorum with in this temple’s sanctum. There is a banayan tree inside the temple, in which the God there is a belief that is at rest in the form of baby in the banayan leaves of the tree. The ceiling of the temple is richly decorated and we can find images depicted in the walls which explains the ancient historic stories. There are many famous personalities who hail from Sivakasi. U.V. Saminatha Iyer is famous man who worked for Tamil literatures, Dr. K.M Irulappan who is an anthropologist involved in translating ancient Sanskrit, Greek, Hebrew language and published many books in Tamil and other languages. Srivilliputtur has one more specialty for which it is spoken, the Palkova. It is also famous for the textile industry like loom-weaving and many cottage industries which are running are involved in producing the world’s best handloom.
